Armchair Liturgist: Feast of the Ascension
An always popular topic. Last time I checked, Nebraska and most of the Atlantic Coast north of Washington celebrates Thursday. Do you maintain the fortieth day and lose 60 to 90% of your parishioners? Or is the feast itself too important to lose? Or, if you wish, take the discussion to another level. The early Church did not distinguish between the feasts of Resurrection, Ascension, and Pentecost. Maybe you think this mystery requires it's own day ... or not. Do you think a Vigil is called for? You're the parish liturgist: how would you celebrate the feast in your parish? You've just been tabbed as Cardinal Arinze's replacement: how would you develop the feast for the universal Church?
