A Man of Science
Rock and Amy had the news of the US's latest bishop yesterday, but I'll chime in with two or three comments: Clearly, any time the bishop is chosen from among the clergy of a diocese, this is a laudable development. Hopefully, Pope Benedict will have more of these up his sleeve. More hopefully, he will be able to help stamp out careerism in the episcopate. Second, the new bishop earned an advanced degree in engineering. It can't hurt to have men of science among our bunch of bishops. Lastly, I've retreated to the Upper Peninsula many times (here) and find it to be a truly peaceful and beautiful place. It's been several years since my last visit, but it would be on the top three of my list of places to visit with my family.
