A Peek in the Nursery
The Spitzer Infrared space telescope sends us these images. Up top is a starforming region in Perseus about six quadrillion miles away. The middle image shows a visible light comparison to the infrared version of Eta Carinae. The spectrum on the other side of red from orange shows what we humans feel as heat. Spitzer can see heat. It is by detecting heat that astronomers can sleuth out more stellar nurseries. The bottom shot has been dubbed "Mountains of Creation," though the creator is fashioning more than just mountains.
